Worse comes to worse you go back to what you were doing before with a fantastic life experience. You might be 2 years behind your colleagues in the rat race, but who really cares in the long run (and arguably your experience will help you catch up). More importantly you tried something you really wanted to do so you have nothing to regret. If you had not tried, you might regret not having tried and who really wants to live with regrets?
