Hey Fabrice,
Great post! Thanks for sharing all you did!

I'm a college student (UG, so not a great time for me to start thinking about starting up :P) but I do have some plans for a start up (after a long time).

And I should say that posts like this one are very encouraging, if not informative!

Cheers, thanks,
Mohan

Fabrice,

Great post.
I agree that no choice is wrong fresh out of college and ideas keep on appearing. I almost got into McKinsey but was chucked in the finals. Then I decided to start my own company, I had a business education so thought it would be bit easier. I could not have been more wrong. It failed and I am back to consulting, though now I clearly see the things which I can take back to my business.

As always, I look forward to reading your blog. If you happen to travel to S.E.Asia (Singapore), do buzz me. I would love to meet up.

Cheers,
Kaushal

"luck plays a role in our success."
You mean "LIFE" and not "SUCCESS" because you are modest now?

Yes, but we are referring to a time long past before I learned the virtues of modesty (or at least of toned down arrogance ;)

McKinsey seems to specialize in hiring 21 year olds who think they know everything. I don't think I would have been nearly had effective if I was not so convinced that I knew what the client had to do (even though they had been in the business for decades).

The more you learn, the more you realize how little you know. I now look back at what I believed then in horror. A few years ago a young McKinsey analyst called me to talk about the ringtone market. I thought I was hearing me 10 years ago on the other side of the line. He already knew what he tought of the market and was just looking to confirm his findings.

I would like to believe I now realize how little I know and how much luck plays a role in our success.

Ah well, live and learn!
