Thanks Fabrice for sharing your experiences. I too have put myself into unknown territory by sourcing vc and am finding that you live & learn & its helpful to have a 'beginner's mind'. The pragmatic details are often a stretch for the creative & passionate mind of an entrepreneur. We are good at holding the vision for a long time whilst the rest of the world thinks we are crazy bootstrapping, living on barely nothing personally & feeding the embryo of our vision with everything we've got. But put us into the Excel sheets of figures & details, we often feel overwhelmed. Sharing our experiences & how we are able to move forward from these tsunamis is so valuable for the rest of the entrepreneur community. Good work we are listening!

Fabrice,

I came upon your site some time ago and had it bookmarked for quite a while. I'm in the process of starting a fashion accessories company and will be looking for a small round of initial start-up capital. Some of the pointers you have here will, I am sure, prove very helpfull in that effort. Many thanks.

Thanks for the "idea risk" / "execution risk" typology. Very handy. I allowed myself to quote you on a post: https://jeremyfain.wordpress.com/2006/08/17/springwisecom-an-entrepreneurial-ideas-database/
It´s a pity I didn´t yet know about your blog when I still was in New York City, 3 months ago.

I wish you good success with your entrepreneurial ventures!

Merry Christmas Fabrice....You mentioned earlier that you have no creative skills but you recognized that and acknowledged it to yourself which allowed you to find ways to compensate for that. Its quite clear you make up for it in your execution ability. What advice would you give someone who is starting up (meaning have limited funds), and have alot of creativity but is lagging in the execution area? I feel if you have no creativity, in the info age it's easy to find ideas, but it's difficult the other way around. Also, you have a 9 rules you follow for choosing a business. Do you have some rules that guide you through the execution through the ideas? (as you can see, i have alot to ask you but i'll stop here...maybe your next project should be to write a book!)

By the time I raised money from Europ@Web the site had been operating successfully for several months, I had created a huge PR buzz around the company (you might remember it was completely over the top!) and offers were pouring in. I had tried to raise money before the site launch, but despite a beautiful business plan and great oral presentation, I was not getting any traction. I finally gave up on raising money, invested every last penny I had and rolled the dice. The rest is history... Interestingly enough, I had to roll the dice again for Zingy where I had to invest everything I had and then some to get it to be successful...
